Optimal allocation of resources in the cities has become even more challenging than before. Ensuring living standards while at the same time managing required infrastructure demands complex planning across vastly different domains. Adding to the challenge is the dynamic and varied nature of today’s cities.

Sustainable development and environmentally friendly designs are an absolute necessity contributing to the smart infrastructure development. On the other hand, our everyday lives have transformed for better via connectivity. The push for “smart” cities, makes master plans for current and future cities more complex.

Powered by The World Avatar, we offer scalability and flexibility to tackle such complex and multi-domain challenges. Semantic framework of the DKGs enable linking data from heterogenous sources as an inherent property, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) based agents bring dynamic automation and help the KG to evolve over time. Multi-criteria decision making will be a side benefit for such an approach, adding to logical reasoning required for consistency of decision making.

Ensuring consistency via CMCL’s Ontology Engineering approach helps build a unified cyber-physical system in which interactions of all urban elements (e.g., energy, water networks, population flow, public transport fleet, mobility schemes, built environment, etc.) could be accounted for in a dynamic and realistic way. Various urban design “what-if” scenarios (“parallel worlds”) could be developed and assessed in a comprehensive and consistent manner to offer decision support. Consistent and structured nature of the offering facilitates alignment with other standard frameworks such as Building Information Modelling (BIM). Our research contribution to the “UK National Digital Twin” initiative is an example of such approach in action.
