Semantics entail providing explicit context to the underlying data and information via taxonomies and ontologies. We are actively engaged in several national and international collaborative initiatives focusing on digital transformation via introduction of semantic platforms. Common architecture, data semantics based on agreed ontologies, standard interface protocols and open nature of these platforms enable seamless interoperability between data, models and digital twins, while assisting users in tackling industrial challenges.

Examples of such digital platforms include Simulation Platforms (SPs), Translation Environments (TEs), Innovation Platforms (IPs) and digital marketplaces. In addition to contributing to the design and implementation of the core platforms, we: are also engaged in use cases, for example:

  • Extending the chemistry ontology (Ontokin) to represent the chemical reactions consistently and their application in gas phase synthesis of organic and inorganic nanoparticles.
  • Enabling “machine-assisted industrial translation”, i.e. the process of “translating” industrial challenges into engineering and modelling workflows, on unit operations in the steel industry
